Netflix released a new film a week ago about a well-known tragedy and fans are not sure how to feel about it.

Society of the Snow is about a plane that crashed in the Andes mountains on October 13, 1972, which carried 45 people (40 passengers and five crew members). The plane was flying from Montevideo, Uruguay, to Santiago, Chile and had Old Christians Club rugby union team members, along with friends, family and supporters on the flight. Only 16 of those survived and were rescued two and a half months after the crash.

Media company LAD Bible posted about the film, and people took offence when the media company called it a "cannibal movie." Because the food supply on the plane was not enough for the survivors, it is said that they ate the flesh of the dead passengers and because they were frozen in the snow, it was good to eat.

A commenter wrote: "What a ridiculous thing to call it…. It’s not a ‘cannibal’ movie, it’s a story of survival. Read the book, listen to the survivors telling their stories." Another wrote: "Please @ladbible, this is not a cannibal movie at all. It’s totally about how human spirit is able to survive, even in the most extreme circumstances. I’m Uruguayan and family anecdote tells, coincidentally one of my sisters was born one day before the accident, on 12 October 1972. The survivors are a living legend for us all, who symbolize values such as friendship, teamwork, human bonding and spirit resilience amidst the worst of the circumstances. Greetings from Uruguay."

The commenters also believe that the film did not need a "remake" from the 1993 film, Alive, which is also based on the incident. Alive is a two hour film and casted actors like Ethan Hawke, Josh Hamilton, John Newton and more. A person wrote: "Another ripoff of a great movie. Nobody has unique ideas for movie scripts anymore?" Another wrote: "Omg can we also please call it a re-make!!!! I’m sure it’s great, but it is a remake." One person in the comments came to the films defense and said Society of the Snow is not a remake, feels "less" Hollywood and Alive did not capture "the soul of what they went through in the mountain."
