Former Sunderland and Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has offered to mentor aspiring coaches following his recent sacking by League One club Fleetwood Town.

Johnson has overseen 523 games as a manager, having started his coaching career at Oldham Athletic in 2013 following a 13-year playing career that included stints at Bristol City and Yeovil Town.

However, things have not been going well for the 42-year-old this season, having already been axed twice. Johnson was sacked by Scottish Premiership side Hibernian on August 27, with the club bottom of the league, before returning to management with Fleetwood a month later.

He was then sacked by Fleetwood last month after just 22 games in charge, with former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam appointed as his replacement. Fleetwood won just six games under Johnson and were second bottom when he was sacked.

"Fleetwood Town can confirm Lee Johnson has left the club with immediate effect," they said in a statement. "Assistant Manager Darren Way and First Team Coach Phil Jevons will also depart – everyone at the Club would like to place on record our thanks to Lee, Darren, and Phil for their hard work and professionalism during their time at the club."

And with more time on his hands following his departure, Johnson has offered to pass on his experience to up-and-coming managers via "four interactive zoom services" which will cover a variety of topics including recruitment, coaching and media management.

In a message posted on his LinkedIn account, Johnson wrote: "This is a message for coaches that aspire to be a manager/head coach or potential technical directors.

"As I'm out of work currently, I thought I would offer up my experiences by the way of four interactive zoom services for five individuals that are keen on learning from my experiences over 500+ games in management.

"Topics covered will include... the interview process, playing philosophy and periodisation, recruiting players and staff, development of younger players, examples of effective working relationships with players and club hierarchy, media management and club structure."

Johnson has won one major trophy during his coaching career, guiding Sunderland to the EFL Trophy in 2021 as they beat Tranmere Rovers 1-0 in the final at Wembley thanks to a goal from Lynden Gooch. He also enjoyed a four-year stint managing of Bristol City before his spells at Sunderland, Hibernian and Fleetwood.
