When it comes to writing invites for a child's birthday party, most parents go out of their way to make sure nobody has been missed. But one single father has been praised for purposely excluding a child from his daughter's bowling party - all because she has headlice.

He explained how his daughter caught lice from her school friend, costing him around £200 to have it professionally treated at a salon. Taking to Reddit, he said: "I had no idea how to treat it. My daughter has long hair, and not to mention having to wash every bedding, pillow, and blanket at my apartment and my mum's house.

"It took hours of cleaning my place and replacing all bedding, and pillows. In total, it probably cost around £100 so about £300 overall. As a single father, money is tough and I am also helping my mum financially." Three months passed without issue but then his daughter returned home one day with headlice once again. He added: "I asked my daughter which friend she has been playing with that has lice issues, and she said Iseah (not her real name).

"She told me that Iseah has been sent home a few times by the school because of lice issues. Her parents are poor and can't afford salon treatment. The treatment bought at the supermarket does not do any good. I told my daughter not to play with her, hug her, or do anything with her until her parents treat the lice. I am also not very keen on exposing my daughter to strong chemicals to kill the lice on her scalp continuously.

"She told me that no other kids want to play with her because of the lice. I told my daughter that I do feel bad for her, however, it's Iseah's mum and dad's job to fix her problem so other kids don't suffer from an itchy scalp. I didn't mention the £300 I spent and six hours to clean both my apartment and my mum's house."

But when it came time to send out invites to his daughter's birthday party, he came to learn Iseah still had headlice. So, he told his daughter not to give her an invite as he didn't want to expose all the guests to them too. Feeling bad about his decision, he added: "I told her not to have anything to do with her, and she asked me if she can invite her, I said not yet because her parents have still not been able to remove the lice.

"I really feel like a bad parent, and a bully like the other parents, what would you do in my situation." In response, one user supported his actions saying: "You're not in the wrong but I think that you probably should call social services."

Another user added: "Make sure that your kid's coat is away from the other kid's coat. I had it at school, literally everything had to be separated. My mother was a hairdresser, the stuff from the supermarket does work."

A third user said: "CALL CPS! [child protection services]. They don't need money to remove the lice. They have to individually pick out the lice with a pick comb and use a chemical. Call CPS, wow, a child is being neglected so call them."
