Teacher, 26, charged after 'having sex with high school student' as she resigns
A special education teacher has been charged after allegedly having sex with a high school student - as parents claim the school was warned about the allegations for months.
Kara Lee, 26, was charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after police claimed they found evidence she engaged in "inappropriate physical touching and sexual intercourse" with a student at Cross County High School in Cherry Valley.
The school district contacted the Arkansas Child Maltreatment Hotline to detail the allegations but parents said they knew of the relationship for months. Officials believe the incidents occurred in November and December 2023. "I've heard that they have been interfering with each other for a while now and that the students knew about and told the school, but they didn't take no action," one local who asked to remain anonymous said.

Cross County High School in Cherry Valley (Cross County SD)"It makes me sad, it also makes me feel angry," Madisyn Hill, a local parent told WREG. "I have siblings that go to the school and they basically just said that it happened and this kid was emailing with her or chatting with her somehow, and it just kept occurring."

Lee was released from jail on a $40,000 (£31,000) bond on Friday and resigned from her job at the high school. Lee's mum also works for the Cross County School District as a General Business Manager and District Treasurer, according to her Facebook profile.
The special education teacher has been charged (Facebook/kara.lee.520)In a statement issued by Nathan Morris, the Cross County Superintendent of Schools said: "The Cross County School District has a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate relationships between educators and students and will continue using its best efforts to provide students with a safe and healthy educational environment."
The allegations come after a 26-year-old maths teacher was charged with raping a 16-year-old student after a classmate showed photos of the teenager's scratches.
Hailey Nichelle Clifton-Carmack, from Missouri, was arrested by police on Friday after the teacher and the student had sex during school and used other students as "lookouts", according to court documents.

A student showed photographs of his classmate with scratches on his back to the police and claimed they were from the teacher after Clifton-Carmack was alleged to have had sex in the classmate's driveway.
The student, who came forward to report the relationship, said the teacher is "too friendly with students and sometimes will dress inappropriately at school".
The teenager's dad has also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after it was claimed he knew about his son's relationship with the teacher.
