'I'm becoming a grandma at 37 – people say I should be angry but I'm proud'
An age-defying TikTok star says she’s set to welcome her first grandchild in April — at the age of 37-years-old. The mother-of-four, who has daughters aged 11, 13, 16 and 20, caused quite a TikTok stir with her viral video, which left many astounded at how young she looked for her age.
Misty Dawn Hight, or @mistydawn3431 as she’s known on the video-sharing app, was keen to explain how she was set to take on the ‘MeeMaw Misty’ moniker, as she will be known by her grandchild, at such a young age, igniting an online frenzy as more than 1.3 million viewed the video.
The mother-of-four said: “Y’all keep asking how I’m gonna be a grandmother, so let me explain,” before telling viewers that her 20-year-old daughter Rileigh was set to give birth to her first child in April.
“I got pregnant with Rileigh at 15, and I was with her dad from 12-21-years-old,” she said, before explaining she had dated her daughter’s father from the age of 12-19, before marrying him when she was 19, and leaving him when she was 21.”
She then told how she had saved her lunch money for the whole week to buy a pregnancy test: “I had asked mum to put me on birth control, but she refused.”

After the positive pregnancy test, she gave birth to her daughter in 2003 when she was 16-years-old, admitting in the video she didn’t know what she was getting herself into at the time: “I was very naive,” she said.
With 58.7k likes and almost 1,000 comments, the post divided public opinion, with some shocked at just how young she looked: “You look like you’re maybe 22 – we need to know your skincare routine,” said one, while another said: “Girl you are well preserved.”
“This isn’t something to be proud of,” said one, while another accused her of “promoting teen pregnancy.” Others were quick to question her mum’s decision on birth control: “Why do mum’s say no birth control? Mine did too, so I went to the clinic and got it myself, had been on it two years when she found out!”
Many people commenting had been through a similar situation saying: “I had my daughter at 15, she had her son at 19 – I became a grandmother at 34,” said one, while another said: “I became a grandmother at 34, as did my mum and her mum!”
Many people applauded the brother for being so kind in such a stressful situation: “You have a great brother” said one, while another said: “What a bro!”
