Amazon’s Prime Video has made a name for itself with its premier TV offering. The streamer’s new season of action series Reacher broke viewership records to become Prime’s most-watched series of 2023 within five days.

January is also shaping up to be a stellar month for TV with a packed slate of blockbuster new shows launching each week, including Prime’s Expats, a hotly anticipated new series starring and produced by Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman. The limited drama series takes viewers to the complex tapestry of Hong Kong and explores the emotions, identities, and relationships of three very different American women living in the same small expat community.

The series is created, directed and written by Chinese-born American filmmaker Lulu Wang, best-known for writing the comedy-drama films Posthumous and The Farewell. It is based on the internationally best-selling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, for which Kidman’s Blossom Films production company optioned the rights to in 2017.
