Scaffolders get revenge on 'rude' motorist after he refused to move his car

Scaffolders played a petty motorist "at his own game" after carrying out a prank as an act of revenge for his stubbornness.

Elliott Lockett's patience was tested when the man left his car in a parking bay in Bloxwich, Birmingham, on Thursday, that he had been using to unload scaffolding poles. The 23-year-old said he and his colleagues were accosted by the driver after he left the white Volkswagen in the spot, despite the danger posed by his parking.

The workers' request was met with repeated protestations of "no" from the driver, telling them he would show them "the law". Elliot had asked him to move the car while they were unloading the 21ft-long poles. But as their polite requests fell on deaf ears, the scaffolders took things into their own hands erecting a "barrier" with the poles around his vehicle. The driver, it's safe to say, was unimpressed with their stunt.

The men eventually removed the barricade after 10 minutes, and while Elliot, from Stoke, Staffordshire, admitted the joke was rather immature, they were simply responding to man's own pettiness. He said: "We agree that it's petty but he was being petty so we played him at his own game.

"There was a plastic barrier already there but by the time we came outside the chap had moved it out of the way and parked up. We were having to get 21ft poles out of an 8ft gap so it's not really practical and there's more risk to the car and the public.

"It's about common sense as well. Why would you want to risk your property getting damaged? He got quite irate and was point-blank refusing to move it and claiming he knew laws off the top of his head.

"I understand his frustration but there were numerous parking spaces he could have used. He took issue with us for no reason. Instead of getting angry about it we thought we'd get some revenge this way."

Elliott added: "He wanted to try and ruin our day so me and the rest of the lads all had a giggle at him. Working people have got to do their job and pay their bills so you've got to let them get on with it."

Footage of the prank meanwhile has divided the internet. Those commenting on a Facebook video supported the builders, with one writing: "What a plonker. Just move your bloody car." Another wrote: "Fair play boys, quality that."
