Coronation Street's Elle Mulvaney mortified as Simon Gregson shares her nickname

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has revealed his nickname for his on-screen daughter, Elle Mulvaney.

Appearing on a celebrity special of ITV's Deal Or No Deal, Simon, 49, and Elle, 21, joined host Stephen Mulhern on Sunday night as he battled it out against the infamous Banker - but not before revealing his secret nickname for Elle, who plays Amy Barlow on the cobbles.

Proving that the co-stars have a very close friendship and bond, Simon admitted that he has a rather unusual pet-name for Elle - however, the actress wasn't best pleased that it's now public knowledge. Speaking to host Stephen, Simon revealed that he lovingly calls his co-star and on-screen daughter 'smelly belly'.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, after the episode aired, Elle poked fun at the embarrassing nickname. "Don’t know how I feel about ‘Smelly Belly’ becoming a public nickname," she quipped before fans reassured her that they thought it was 'adorable'.

"You was right, Simon had a big amount in his box, just as you thought. He did well though, I would have dealt at £8000 as it was for charity. Hope you enjoyed it smelly belly," one fan replied. While another joked: "There are better nicknames #DealOrNoDeal you were outstanding on show with Simon."

Simon and Elle appeared on the show in the hopes of winning money for charity. At the end of the show, Simon was left with three potential winning amounts - £50,000, £4,000 or £100. However, Simon was then offered the staggering sum of £15,300 from the banker, meaning that he was left debating whether to take the deal or not.

Given that he could have lost it all, Simon took the chance and thankfully it paid off, with the actor winning the huge sum for his chosen charity. Then, in an unlucky twist at the end of the show, it was revealed that Simon actually had the £50,000 box all along.

It meant that if Simon hadn't of settled on the £15,300 offered to him by the banker, he would have snapped up the £50,000. Although he appeared slightly disappointed, Simon told Stephen that he was happy to have won the smaller sum - knowing that it will make a huge difference regardless.

It wasn't long before fans flocked to Twitter to gush over Simon's efforts. "Wow! £15,200.00 is still an excellent amount. Simon played very well, God Love him," one wrote. While another echoed: "Well done Simon Gregson #DealOrNoDeal. He played an absolute blinder."

"Simon 100% did the sensible thing. He don't risk/gamble 15,000 for £50,000 knowing that the money is going to a charity. Amazing job from him. Loved this celebrity special," someone else gushed. While another ITV viewer added: "Simon played well and made a sensible decision. #DealOrNoDeal."
