One shopper, who regularly wears the original Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel, said: “This is very similar to Coco by Chanel. I wear "Coco" and , ideal for holidays or popping in your handbag. The genuine perfume lasts all day, the M&S version doesn't, but then it's a fraction of the price. Good value and a lovely fragrance for the price. Would definitely buy again.”

Some customers have agreed that the scent's longevity isn’t as impressive as the £71 Chanel bottle, writing: “A lovely smell of Coco Chanel and a great price. Sadly the smell doesn't last and less than an hour after spraying the smell is gone. Not great for a full day event, or evening out.”

But others have said they can still smell it long after applying, countering: “For such a low price this is amazing. Used after a shower 12 hours ago and I can still smell the aroma. Used to spending a fortune on perfume, but M&S are as lovely as the expensive ones. Strongly recommend.”

Another said: “I randomly picked up this bottle in M&S whilst browsing, as soon as I smelt it I thought of Coco Chanel. It smells exactly the same! Brought a small bottle and put it on the next day and could still smell it hours later. Will be purchasing the large version. Absolute bargain!”

As a wearer of Chanel’s iconic scent, I popped in store to see if it really was as similar as everyone said, and have to say I was pretty impressed. There’s definitely a resemblance, and even if not exactly on the nose - if you’ll pardon the pun - it’s a if you don’t want to fork out a significant sum.
