A Liverpool fan got more than he bargained for after invading the pitch during his team's 2-0 FA Cup win against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.

The Reds supporter invaded the pitch after Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross was nodded into his own net by Jakub Kiwior in the 80th minute. Jurgen Klopp's players and the visiting fans went wild, as Alexander-Arnold was smothered by his team-mates.

One eager fan was desperate to join in with the celebrations and hugged the Liverpool players, with Darwin Nunez noticing. The Uruguayan started tapping the pitch invader's head before Ibrahima Konate took his hat off and threw it back into the crowd.

Several fans watching the game at home noticed the hilarious incident. "Absolutely creasing at Konate ripping that fans cap off and chucking it away," wrote one supporter on X. "He got MOTM (Man of the Match) for this alone."

Konate was named the Man of the Match for his keeping Arsenal's attack quiet at the Emirates. The Gunners had 18 shots during Sunday's third-round FA Cup tie and boasted 55 per cent of the possession, but they couldn't breach Liverpool's solid defence.

Luis Diaz scored in the 95th minute to confirm the win. Konate told the BBC at full-time: "I am very happy to get this, but I think the Man of the Match award goes to all of the team because we did a big job all together, and without them I would never receive this.

"I am very happy and now we go into the next round. But the most important thing is to work quickly because we have a game in three days."

Despite the Premier League's winter break, Liverpool still have a busy schedule thanks to their involvement in the Carabao Cup. The Reds face Fulham at Anfield in the first leg of their semi-final on Wednesday, although they do have an 11-day break after that.

After facing Bournemouth in the Premier League on January 21, Liverpool travel to Craven Cottage three days later for the second leg of their Carabao Cup clash. Their next Premier League game takes place on January 31, with Chelsea visiting Merseyside.

Liverpool are three points clear at the top of the Premier League and have reached the last 16 of the Europa League, meaning they are on course for an unprecedented quadruple of trophies. Klopp will be hoping to win at least one competition this season.

Konate added: "I know it’s hard to play a lot of games, but we love it. This is good for everyone because everyone has the time to play because we have some players on the bench. We have a lot of games I know, but everyone knows we can do that.

"We did it two years ago, but we won only two trophies (the FA Cup and Carabao Cup). I hope this season will be different and I cross my fingers for that."
