James Morrison once shared that he had "never felt in love" before meeting his partner Gill Catchpole, who it has been reported this week has passed away recently, aged 45.

The singer-songwriter, 39, is understood to have begun his long-term relationship with Gill around two decades ago. James - known for songs like You Give Me Something - has spoken about their romance on occasions in the past.

The couple welcomed two children together during their relationship, with their eldest daughter Elsie, now 15, born back in 2008. James and Gill's daughter Ada Rose, now five, was born a exactly decade later in 2018.

James spoke about how he met his partner whilst on the White Wine Question Time podcast in 2021. He told host Kate Thornton that he met Gill when she moved into his mother's house as a lodger, with her then-boyfriend. He said: "It wasn't the easiest start, but I just still see it as a really romantic thing. I'm not very romantic. [...] But I do find certain things romantic and the fact that we met each other the way we did. It's like a little fairytale or something!"

It was suggested that he "sang his way into her heart," with James teasing he would "serenade" in the corridor hoping that she'd hear him. James stated that his romance developed with her around three months after her ex left.

James said that the ex-boyfriend "got [him] back." He said that one day his mother asked him to pick her up from a "date" and it turned out to be with Gill's ex. James teased on the podcast: "So I have to go and pick my mum up from my girlfriend's ex's house, and it was the most awkward thing!"

He went on to share that he connected with Gill on music because her father was also a musician. He said: "We just had a connection straight away really. But I had to wait like two years to find out if what I thought I felt was real."

James continued: "Because I wasn't going out with her for the first year or so she lived there. She was with her boyfriend, so I was getting to know her." He added that he had "never felt in love" before meeting his future partner.

"I didn't want to tell her that I fell in love with her the first moment I set eyes on her because I didn't know, I'd never felt in love before. So I didn't really know if it was that. So it was like a massive moment for me to even tell her that I liked her," he said about the early stages of their romance.
