Russell Brand 'turned away' from Scottish pub on New Year's Day

Russell Brand was reportedly told that there was no room at the inn on New Year's Day after he and his party looked to dine out at a Scottish pub.

The controversial comedian was accused of rape, assault and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013 following The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4 Dispatches documentary in September and he was recently questioned by Metropolitan Police detectives for a second time regarding allegations of sexual offences. Brand has strenuously denied all the allegations levelled against him.

Staff at Stirlingshire pub The Cross Keys were not going to give Brand the VIP treatment on New Year's Eve and when he arrived with family and friends for lunch, they were quick to inform him that there were no tables available and if he was going to eat there, he would have to wait for a table to become free, however long that takes to happen.

The Daily Record has reported that the actor and comedian had rented out Broich House, around nine miles from Stirling, with the seven-bedroom mansion, set on a private 450-acre country estate, would be costing Brand around £20,000-per-week in rent. The comedian has made himself known since arriving there, with locals reporting that they had seen him out jogging in the mornings.

The publication reported that those eating at the pub were surprised to see Brand arrive and then quickly beat a retreat after being told by staff that there was nothing they could do for them. A source told the Record: "My family spotted him jogging by the house on New Year's Eve. He apparently turned up at a private party in the village for the bells."

There has been a friendlier welcome to Brand in Stirling City Centre, a few days later, when he was asked to take selfies with staff at Superdrug as the actor enjoyed a spot of New Year shopping. The festive getaway proving some welcome relief from the allegations he has faced since Dispatches aired.

Brand was interviewed under caution on Thursday, December 14, over six non-recent sexual abuse allegations. This followed questioning in November over three other claims. He has strongly denied the claims with the allegations said to have taken place during the height of his fame, when he worked in Hollywood, as well as for the BBC and Channel 4, where he was on Big Brother spin-off shows, Efourum and Big Brother's Big Mouth.

Brand has also worked on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6 Music between 2006 and 2008 and the BBC has launched a review into Brand's behaviour.
