Singing legend Michael Bolton shares his brain tumour diagnosis

Michael Bolton has shared a health setback that he went through recently.

The 70-year-old singer told fans about a recent surgery that is making him take a break from performing live. "Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumour, which required immediate surgery. Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success," he wrote on Instagram.

"I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family," he added. Michael said in his note that for the "next couple of months" he would focus on getting better and taking a "temporary break" from the stage.

His note continued: "It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon."

The Grammy Award winner thanked fans for their "love and support" as well, ending the message with: "Know that I'm keeping your positive messages in my heart, and I'll give you more updates as soon as I can. Much love always, MB."

Fans of the singer shared their well wishes for Michael in the comments section of his Instagram post. "All love and prayers for a speedy recovery MB!!" one fan wrote. Other fans encouraged Michael to take all the time he needed. "No rush, take your time to fully recovered.. your health is the priority. Get well soon!" One said.

Another added: "Michael please rest and get well soon!!! Heard you had been sick, but didn't know if was so serious... You are strong Michael and I love you! Look forward to your updated progress. Know that I have you in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy and full recovery!"

Michael first started his music career in the 1970s as part of the heavy metal band Blackjack. Then in the late 1980s, he went solo and became famous for a new genre of romantic pop ballads.

He was nominated for four Grammys throughout the 1990s and won two of them. Michael won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1990 and 1992 for How Am I Supposed To Live Without You and When a Man Loves a Woman respectively.
