A woman has shared how her dog walk has left her ‘shaken and scared’ after a man started following her every day along her route. After saying she lets her dog – a seven-year-old Corso/Presa Canario mix – guide their daily walk, she admitted that they tended to end up on the same route, always ending up at a park near her home.

On this particular day, she told how a stranger had struck up a conversation with her, and, after telling her she had a beautiful dog, asked her why she had chosen that particular breed: “I said that he chose me, and that I was looking for a dog at the time. We had an instant bond, and I knew he was mine,” she said.

After continuing with her walk the woman shared how the man reappeared out of nowhere to start harassing her on her hound, telling her: “No female should own that dog; that’s a man dog.” And although she tried to walk away, he kept following her, saying: ”If your dog wanted to get away from you right now and attack me, he would. He will kill me.”

While the woman claims to have a good handle on her dog, she told how when the man got a little too close, her dog looked up and began paying very close attention to him. “He growled a little. Usually I wouldn’t let him growl at strangers, but this guy was getting close for no reason. Thankfully, this turned the guy away. My dog doesn’t play around with my safety. Even when he was a puppy he would always put himself in front of me to protect me.”

She also told how she had worked very hard to train her dog to behave well in public: “He doesn’t growl at strangers unless they are angry or are shouting at me.” With the man’s unwanted attention riling up both the woman and her dog, she admitted she felt as though the man was trying to get her dog to attack him: “I’m not sure why. I love my dog. He’s a very great boy. I know this breed is not for everyone, but it’s definitely not gender specific. I feel like I should avoid walking where I had this conversation at.”

Her story riled many Reddit readers, who were quick to jump to her dog’s defence: “That is bizarre behaviour and he escalated it,” said one. “If the dog hadn’t made his presence felt, that guy may have kept pushing the issue and gotten aggressive.”

Another agreed, saying:“It’s unsolicited, very pushy and just weird. Police ought to know. He’s upset because there are some men that love to go around asserting dominance over women and you having a dog like that takes away some of his power to do that.”

One reader said the dog sounded like the perfect breed for encounters of this nature: “Sounds like this is exactly the type of dog you should own, for exactly these types of situations. Guy sounds like trouble. I also tend to think dogs have good radars and if a dog that usually doesn’t growl picks someone out, they have reasons."
