The One Show's Lauren Laverne leaks huge Masked Singer spoiler live on air

Lauren Laverne let a Masked Singer spoiler slip live on Thursday night’s The One Show.

The Masked Singer UK and panellist Davina McCall swung by The One Show studio this week to chat about the new series, with a whole host of masked celebrities battling it out to stay in the singing competition by not giving their identity away. Davina is joined on the judging panel by Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan and the first person to be .

But discussing the popular series this week, 45-year-old Lauren revealed that someone from one of TV’s most popular shows is behind a mask - those being Air Fryer, Owl, Piranha, Bubble Tea, Chicken Caesar and Eiffel Tower - and fans were quick to take to X, formerly Twitter, to question whether or not what Lauren said was true. DJ Lauren said on air: “A former Doctor Who will be making an appearance on The Masked Singer this season,” but neither 56-year-old Davina nor Roman, 30, elaborated on the remark.

That didn’t top Masked Singer fans taking to social media to demand answers, with one person tweeting BBC One directly with the question: “Did @laurenlaverne accidentally give away that a former #DoctorWho [star] is a contestant on the @MaskedSingerUK this year?” while someone else asked, “A former Doctor Who will be on #MaskedSinger?” In response to this person’s tweet, someone else chimed in: “I noticed that, big spoiler, and nobody seems to have picked up on it. Unless she meant as a guest on the panel for a week?” Another person fumed, “Did you just give away that one of The Masked Singers is a former Doctor Who [star]? Spoilers!”

On Saturday, music icon Dionne left the panel starstruck as she unveiled herself as the star beneath the mask. She then shared her joy at being asked to do the series, but admitted it was tricky trying to disguise her voice on the show.

Charlie Simpson joined Davina and co as a guest judge on the panel and Maypole, Dippy Egg and Weather (who ended up being Dionne) found themselves in the bottom three. The next episode will see Air Fryer, Bubble Tea, Owl, Piranha, Eiffel Tower and Chicken Caesar all competing.

Viewers had correctly predicted Dionne might be Weather before her identity was revealed with the character dropping a number of clues about their identity on the show before and after their performance.

Clues included being powerful and dominating and weathering the storm - as well as references to Blues music. One viewer said: "Weather is Dionne Warwick," as another tweeted, "Weather has got to be Dionne Warwick."

A third added: "Dionne Warwick is Weather," while a fourth said, "Weather can’t be Dionne Warwick…can it!?"

Meanwhile, prior to the show starting, host said he couldn’t wait for kick off. The doting dad raved: "Honestly, they are the best costumes ever. If they don’t make you smile, well, get out! Air Fryer is unbelievably silly. It's so liberating to be a part of a show where first of all, people really enjoy it and also from my point of view, any idea I have, it's fair game. Even when it comes to the suits!

"I think we've definitely got some of the best vocalists we've ever had on the show and we've had some really incredible ones in the past. The show goes through an interesting meandering of, we are all here for all the new characters, but then maybe the better singers start to get through in the last rounds, usually the final.

"Let's be honest, it’s usually really incredible singers left at that point. This year I really do feel like we've got some of the best we've ever had."

Mirror Online has reached out to Lauren's reps for comment.
