Coronation Street's Nicola Thorp has welcomed her first child.

The actress took to her Instagram to announce that she and her fiancé Nikesh Patel had welcomed a baby daughter and were "shattered" but "smitten" at the same time. But while sharing her joyous news, Nicola was also quick to remind her online followers that not every mother was as fortunate as her.

While many often receive messages of congratulations or gifts after giving birth Nicola, 34, urged her fans to consider those in war-torn zones amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Sharing her news, Nicola wrote: "We are delighted to say that we recently welcomed our beautiful baby daughter into the world.

"Everything they say about birth being a rollercoaster of emotions is true. We're shattered and smitten and everything in between." Nicola continued: "Social media is a difficult place right now. If your timeline is anything like ours, it's filled with images of babies and children dying in conflict or living in fear and unimaginable danger.

"It doesn't feel right to share our news on her without also acknowledging how fortunate we are that our baby is safe. If like us you feel helpless, please consider donating to the United Nations Sexual and Reproductive Health Agency, who are responding to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and supporting pregnant women, new mums and their babies.

"Every child deserves to be born into safety." Alongside her powerful message, Nicola shared a snap of both her daughter's small hand, holding her mum and dad's fingers shortly after being born. The TalkTV presenter announced she and her Starstruck star fiancé were expecting their firstborn in September last year.

Posing alongside one another in a stunning snap, she wrote: "Some news." In recent weeks, she has continued to update her followers on her pregnancy with several behind-the-scenes snaps. Two months before giving birth, she opened up to her co-presenter, Jeremy Kyle about how pregnancy had shaped her perspective on things.

She said: "It's no longer about me fighting for myself, it's about me fighting for my daughter – and not just on issues of misogyny, but issues of race as well. There are people out there, believe it or not in 2023, who don't think me and my partner should be having a baby, because we come from different ethnic backgrounds. So I really feel even more strongly on issues of racism."

Just last month, prior to taking maternity leave from her role on TalkTV, Nicola and her fiancé enjoyed a lavish "Babymoon". The star took to Instagram, baring her bump in a pair of black and white striped pyjamas and a black bralet as she rocked a pair of oversized sunglasses while sipping on a non-alcoholic drink.
