Tom Kerridge's 'energising' overnight oats recipe will help melt away belly fat

It's officially January, meaning there's no better time to kickstart your healthy lifestyle.

Thankfully, cutting back on junk won't cost you a fortune. Not only that, but some delicious recipes are both easy to make and tasty. And with that said, MasterChef star Tom Kerridge has the perfect dish in mind to help people lose belly fat.

While it's important to get the right amount of exercise, the food you eat also contributes to your improved health. A natural way to burn fat includes consuming at least five portions of fruits and vegetables per day, drinking six to eight glasses of water, and eating high-fibre starchy foods such as oats, brown rice, and wholegrain breads, according to Bupa.co.uk.

Most of us have become reliant on prepping our meals - including the all-important breakfast meal. We can save on precious time during the hectic mornings, so we won't need to rush out of our doors to make it to the office on time. Overnight oats are both filling, delicious and go great with a variety of fruits.

Sharing his simple recipe with fans on his website, British chef Tom, who has also appeared on the Great British Menu and Saturday Kitchen, says: "A brilliant breakfast that you can get ready the night before to take the stress out of a busy morning! Overnight oats are a super filling way to energise your day." Here is exactly how you can make Tony's overnight oats and bear in mind, it serves two people.

Tom Kerridge's overnight oats recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples
  • 1⁄2 mug of rolled oats
  • 1⁄2 mug of milk
  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp raisins
  • 1⁄2 mug of natural yoghurt

Method:

  1. Begin by grating your apples on the coarse side of a box grater.
  2. Next, pour the oats into a large container, then add the milk, grated apple, cinnamon, raisins and yoghurt.
  3. Give it all a good stir and then cover the container with a lid or cling film. Pop it in the fridge overnight to let the oats soak up the milk.
  4. The next day, remove the lid and give the oat mix a stir. Spoon into bowls and tuck in!
