Emily Atack previously referred to her cousins as “the best invention since the Game Boy” and added that her relatives are “50% sibling, 50% mate”.

The Inbetweeners star, 34, made the remarks years before it was revealed that she’s expecting a baby with Alistair Garner, who she’s thought to have known for 30 years. Emily’s mum, actress Kate Robbins, even referred to her baby daddy as her 'nephew' in an unearthed social media post.

Mum-to-be Emily announced she was expecting her first child last week and her partner Alistair is a nuclear scientist.

In her 2019 autobiography Are We There Yet?, Emily wrote: “Cousins are the best invention since the Game Boy. They are basically 50 per cent sibling, 50 per cent mate. You look the same but different.”

According to MailOnline she added: “You understand each other on a deep, deep, level and you have a smidgen more social etiquette towards them than your brother or sister. It makes me sad for my friends who don't have that relationship with their cousins, because mine were the best friends I ever had. They are still my best friends to this day.”

After highlighting Emily’s “best invention” and “50% sibling, 50% mate” comments, the outlet also noted that Emily went on: “Most of them [her cousins] have northern accents like our parents, are model-tall, and they are all absolutely gorgeous.”

Reports first started to circulate on Wednesday that Emily had known the father of her child for decades before they struck up a romance and 37-year-old Alistair’s step-mum is actually actress Kate’s sister, which makes the parents-to-be step-cousins. Emily's aunt Jane Garner is said to have met Alistair’s late dad Stephen Garner during the early nineties and they tied the knot in 1994.

In an old Instagram post uploaded around four and a half years ago, Kate referred to Alistair as her nephew while revealing he wore her 'cringe' jacket from the 80s. Alongside a decades-old photo of herself in a denim coat, Kate also posted a photo of Alistair wearing the same jacket at Glastonbury in 2019 captioned: "In 1982 I had this rather moody publicity shot taken. Yes, cringe. Forward to 2019 Glastonbury and my nephew @bigfattyalan is wearing the same jacket (minus tassels) good recycling."

Emily first announced her pregnancy on Saturday and shared a photo of herself sporting a bump. She wrote in the caption that accompanied the selfie: "Hello everyone, it's been a little while but I'm back with some news. I'm delighted to share with you all that we're having a baby!"

She continued in the post: "I've never been so happy and utterly terrified at the same time. Please go easy on me. Every day is mixed with thrill, fear, joy, hysteria, topped off with a lot of vomiting - a bit like when you've just stepped off of the Oblivion at AltonTowers on a hangover."

Emily then commented: "I've got to know my body on such an insane level. It's made me appreciate the one I've been given SO much, I'm doing my absolute best to make it a home for the little squid I'm growing. We can already sense the baby is reclined on a mattress of peanut butter and jam sandwiches in there, demanding more chocolate buttons."

‌She concluded the post on the weekend by telling her followers: "I'm so happy to be writing all of this to you all. You've always stuck by me through the years, do stick around to watch me enter my mum era. Christ. Let's go."
