Kalvin Phillips will go to the Euros with England "regardless of where he ends up" this month, according to Robbie Savage.

The Manchester City midfielder has endured a torrid time over his 18-month stint at the Etihad and, as a result, is looking to find a new home in January. The Premier League champions are ready to sanction a loan exit, but Phillips wants to know he will get minutes wherever he goes next.

England caps have continued to come his way despite the lack of minutes and Newcastle are among the frontrunners to sign the former Leeds man. Phillips, though, is seeking assurances over the amount of game time he can expect before he makes a call on his future.

Some have challenged Southgate's decision to stick by the 28-year-old despite his lack of games but Savage is confident he will be on the plane whatever happens in the coming months and has backed him to head to St James' Park.

He told Planet Sport Bet: "Gareth Southgate has a lot of faith in Kalvin Phillips as he continues to pick him in the England squad despite him playing hardly any minutes for Manchester City. I still think he’ll go to the Euros regardless of where he ends up after this transfer window.

‌“If I was him, I’d want to be playing Premier League football, so Newcastle looks a great option. The fanbase is unbelievable and they certainly need someone in that central midfield area. He needs to go where he thinks he’ll play the most football to get himself in the best possible shape for the Euros and the best option right now to me looks like going to Newcastle.”

Phillips was a regular at the last Euros, making himself at home at the base of midfield alongside Declan Rice as England made the final at Wembley. He's been overtaken in the pecking order since then with Pep Guardiola previously apologising for the lack of minutes he's handed out.

He said: "I don't know what's going to happen. I feel so sorry for my decision for him. I've said that many times. He doesn't deserve what has happened to him and I'm so sorry. The only thing I can say about him is I am asking for good personalities and characters and he is a perfect example."
