The future king has a "notably short fuse" and has been known to blow his lid a number of times, an expert claims, with William and Kate having reportedly had "heated" rows.

Robert Jobson, a journalist who regularly covers the royals, says aides have previously told him the Prince can be "a bit of a shouter". Lifting the lid on their relationship, he wrote for Mail Online that a former courtier once shared: “They both have quite extreme mood swings, just as Diana did. She could be your best friend one minute and the next your worst enemy.”

William and Kate will celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary later this year after tying the knot in April 2011. Writing in his 2022 book, William at 40, The Making of a Modern Monarch, Mr Jobson claims the couple have a very strong partnership and are clearly very in love, but have different approaches when it comes to disagreements.

It was also claimed William has a “notably short fuse”. According to the writer, a close royal aide once revealed to him: “He can be a bit of a shouter when he loses it.”

However, the aide added: “It’s fair to say the Duke and the Duchess give as good as they get if their disagreement results in raised voices. But they know each other so well, it usually blows over quickly – and she is, on the whole, a major calming influence on him.”

Evidence of William's temper appears to have been backed by his own brother. One of Prince Harry's major bombshells from last year's memoir, Spare, revealed how he and his older brother once got into a physical fight ahead of his nuptials to Meghan Markle.

But despite the occasional row with Kate, Mr Jobson claims the couple largely have a "solid relationship" with the princess keeping him "grounded" due to her upbringing out of the public eye. "They've got a solid relationship and she gives him confidence," he added. "There is no jealousy, no friction – they are happy for each other's successes."

While it's been nearly 23 years since the two first met at St Andrew's University, they both still recall the awkwardness. Kate has previously revealed how the first time she ever met William she went 'bright red', saying: "I actually think I went bright red when I met you and sort of scuttled off, feeling very shy."

Despite the shyness, it seems Kate still managed to leave an impression. William once claimed he knew immediately she was "special", despite the two being friends and housemates for several months before eventually beginning dating as students.

Speaking years after they met, he claimed: "When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her. I knew there was possibly something that I wanted to explore there."
