How to connect AirPods to PS5 – use your Apple earbuds with your console

Despite the PS5 not natively supporting Bluetooth audio devices, there are multiple workarounds that will allow you to use your Apple AirPods with your console.

One of the best ways to immerse yourself in a video game is with a dedicated headset or earbuds, and with Apple AirPods being some of the most popular earbuds on the market right now, it's only natural for gamers to want to use them with their PS5. Unfortunately, Sony doesn't allow you to connect Bluetooth audio devices to your PS5 natively – likely to encourage you to buy its brand of wireless devices.

However, there are some workarounds to allow you to comfortably use your Apple AirPods with your PS5 or your PS5 Slim. As these aren't official methods, they require additional products so be sure you've got the correct kit outlined below to get started.

How to connect AirPods to PS5

Since you can't connect Bluetooth audio devices directly to your PS5, you'll have to pick up a Bluetooth 5.0 wireless audio adaptor. Be sure to grab the 5.0 variant as adaptors with 4.0 and below aren't compatible with AirPods. Once you've got your hands on the right adaptor follow the steps below to get set up on your PlayStation console.

1. Plug your Bluetooth 5.0 wireless audio adaptor into your PS5 console
2. Put your AirPods into pairing mode by holding the button on the back until the indicator light blinks
3. Press the pairing button on the Bluetooth adaptor
4. Once both lights have stopped flashing the devices are successfully connected

This should now allow you to use your AirPods with your PS5 seamlessly. Some Bluetooth 5.0 wireless audio adaptors might have different setup processes so be sure to check your product manual if you're facing any issues.

How to connect AirPods to Smart TV

Some Smart TVs give you the option to connect Bluetooth audio devices. This will allow you to use your AirPods with your PS5 without having to pick up a Bluetooth 5.0 wireless audio adaptor. Settings will vary between TVs so if you're struggling to complete any of the below steps then consult your TV's manual.

1. Navigate to your TV's Devices or Accessories menu within the Settings

2. Put your AirPods into pairing mode by holding the button on the back until the indicator light blinks

3. Select the Scan for Devices or Find Devices option
4. Once the light on your AirPods has stopped flashing they will be connected
5. Change your TV's audio output to your headphones

This should allow you to use your AirPods with your Smart TV, which not only lets you listen to your PS5 output but also watch movies or TV shows using your headphones if you don't want to disturb others in your house.
