Jude Bellingham ‘breaking’ same La Liga rule as Gareth Bale for Real Madrid
Jude Bellingham is following in the footsteps of Gareth Bale at Real Madrid - by breaking a La Liga rule and tearing holes in the back of his socks.
The England star, hotly-tipped by many to end 2024 as the Ballon d’Or winner, has been cutting the holes around the calf area because it is believed to reduce the risk of injury. Many players believe that the socks are too tight and the compression leads to an increased risk of muscle injuries.
Welshman Bale, who did not enjoy the same level of approval from demanding Real fans during his time in the Spanish capital, would also alter his socks for the same reason.
Bellingham is also cutting off the foot portion of the club socks and wearing personalised technical socks up to the ankle.
The Liga rules state that players must not wear any kit that is torn and if an item is ripped it must be replaced during a match. There are also rules saying that items such as technical socks must be the same colour and some players cover them with matching tape.

An increasing number of fans have been taking notice and wondering why Bellingham, among others, has been playing wit the holes. But league suits are so far turning a blind eye to Bellingham’s choice - understandable considering he is the biggest star in Spanish football.
The former Birmingham City starlet has scored 17 goals in 21 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s team, including a remarkable double in the first Clasico of the campaign.
A number of Premier League players are ripping their socks, too, including Chelsea and England midfielder Conor Gallagher.

“And enjoy being a Real Madrid player. Working at Real Madrid requires a certain level of quality and mentality, and to have this responsibility feels like a huge privilege to me. Every day I come I try to work hard to be the best. The goal when you come to Real Madrid is to win everything.”
Los Blancos return to action against Mallorca tomorrow night as they seek to create a gap between surprise packages Girona, whom they currently lead on goal difference. They will also face RB Leipzig in the Champions League round of 16.
