'Rishi Sunak defying will of the people is pathetic sight of an unpopular PM'

Demands for an early general election and the huge Labour lead recorded in today’s Daily Mirror poll show the country is crying out for change. Frightened Rishi Sunak defying the will of the people by clinging to office is the pathetic sight of an unpopular Prime Minister hiding from reality.

The two-thirds (66%) wanting an election before the summer will not take kindly to a weak, incompetent and out of touch Sunak putting himself and the Conservative Party before the national interest. And the reason he is selfishly delaying is Labour’s 14-point poll lead that would install Keir Starmer as PM with a thumping majority.

Sunak is the past, Starmer the future. Voters deserve to decide who governs Britain. The Tories may be digging themselves into a deeper hole by testing the patience of people already fed up with them.

Time to get off

The 300 million fewer miles driven by buses now than in 2010 are a damning indictment of the Tories’ destruction of another precious public service. That 22% crash, with a 4.6% fall in the latest year, is much more than a statistic when it means people are left waiting longer at stops or stranded where a route was scrapped.

Shadow Transport Secretary Louise Haigh’s plans to get Britain moving again would be one of the big gains from a change of
Government in Westminster this year. Buses are a lifeline for the younger, older, poorer and vulnerable – as well as the planet – when cheap, reliable, good services also tempt us out of our cars.

The Tory great bus disaster is why it’s time for the Conservatives to get off.

Crawl the best

Hardy souls go to great lengths to take the plunge in cold seas on New Year’s Day. With turbulent waters ahead in a potentially momentous 2024, let’s hope the swims prove lucky dips.
