King Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles are set to see in the New Year at Sandringham with the pair wishing the country a happy 2024.

The royal pair attended a church service earlier today (December 31) with the Queen donning a blue coat and matching hat to greet the public before the ceremony. They later took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a message to the public with a sparkling graphic showing Buckingham Palace alongside the caption: “Happy New Year”.

Previous celebrations to see in the New Year in 2006 saw Charles enjoy a quick tipple of a 50-year-old malt whisky while his two professional chefs prepared a grand dinner including Highland cattle steak, gamebirds shot near the river dee, mushrooms grown by Charles and some locally caught salmon.

But plans for this year could be more low-key after a turbulent 2023 for the Royal Family with some tremendous highs including the historic Coronation of King Charles , as well as some tense lows and even more bombshells launched by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle .

Warring factions of The Firm could be looking to put this year behind them and move on from Harry's bombshell memoir that was published in January and rows over race after a Dutch version of Omid Scobie’s book Endgame named two members of the royal family alleged to have raised "concerns" about the skin colour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son, Prince Archie.

Other issues included Harry and Meghan being evicted from Frogmore Cottage . The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed they had been asked to 'vacate' their Windsor home , which had been given to them as a wedding present from the late Queen - although they hardly used it.

The King and Queen’s simple New Year’s message was well-received by royal fans, who flooded the replies with messages wishing the couple all the best in return.
