Lewis Capaldi breaks silence with health update amid indefinite break from music
Lewis Capaldi has made a brief return to the limelight to share an emotional wellbeing update with fans.
The singer has kept a low profile since announcing an 'indefinite break' earlier this year after being blighted by health issues.
In July, a heartbroken Lewis told fans he needed to take a break from touring 'for the foreseeable future', pulling out of his upcoming gigs including a headline set at Reading and Leeds Festival. The sad news came days after the singer broke down and struggled to finish his set at Glastonbury. In heartbreaking scenes, Lewis lost his voice and became tearful as the crowd at Worthy Farm sang the words of his biggest hits back at him in a show of support.
The 27-year-old has been open about his struggle with Tourette’s syndrome after going public with his diagnosis in September 2022. Just months later, Lewis revealed his condition had worsened and he was struggling to control his tics while performing, acknowledging there could come a day when he'd have to quit music because of it.
The singer then announced in July that he was taking an 'indefinite break' to work on his 'mental and physical health.' “The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier," he told fans in a statement.

The singer-songwriter told fans he is still not ready to return to the spotlight. In a lengthy post Lewis said he is "working with some incredible professionals to help me learn about and cope better with my Tourette’s and anxiety issues”, and has noticed an improvement.
He wrote: "Firstly, I want to start this by saying I hope you're all doing well out there, I've missed you!
"As most of you will know, I'm currently taking some time off to focus on my health and wellbeing and it's been going great! I've been working with some incredible professionals to help me learn about and cope better with my Tourette's and anxiety issues.
"I'm really happy to say I've noticed a marked improvement in both since I decided to take some time off back in June.
"I was completely overwhelmed by the reaction to the news that I was taking a break and genuinely want to thank each and every one of you who reached out, left a comment, tweet or dm wishing me well, the support was like nothing I've ever experienced and has made me more excited than ever to return to doing what I love at some point in the not too distant future.
"For now though I just want to say another massive thank you for the support on my second album."
He continued: ""This album was a scary one for me - if you saw the film I made on Netflix you probably know this already.
"But I was absolutely terrified of disappointing you all, afraid of not living up to expectations and in all honesty scared that the whole thing would be a complete flop. But thanks to all of you, it wasn't.
"It's mind blowing to see the songs on this album still resonating with so many of you despite the fact I've not been out there promoting it or touring, it means the world to me.

He went on: "Prior to my decision to f**k off for a bit, I'd always hoped to release an extended version at some point! "After some back-and-forth about whether or not it was the right thing to do, I've decided it would be a shame for these extra five songs, which are so incredibly special to me, to sit on my hard drive, never to see the light of day. With that, I'm absolutely over the moon to announce that ' Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent (Extended Edition) ' will be yours to listen to tomorrow on New Year's Day!"
Lewis then told fans that this momentary return to the public sphere was just a fleeting one. He explained: "For now I'm going to continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself, maybe writing some music and taking a moment to reflect on some of the most incredible years of my life.
"I want to make absolutely sure I'm 100% before getting back out there again properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything! These songs mean the world to me and I'd be gutted if I'd not been able to share them.
"Hope this tides you all over until we can get in a room and sing them together some day very soon!" Lewis finished the message by telling fans: "Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent (Extended Edition)' out at midnight. Happy New Year!"
The message was immediately liked by thousands of Lewis followers and celebrity fans with many rushing to offer their support in the comments.
In July this year, Lewis took to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival but struggled to complete his set. After performing Bruises, the Scot said he was having vocal issues, telling the crowd: "I’m going to be honest everybody but I’m starting to lose my voice up here, but we’re going to keep going and we’re going to go until the end.
"I just need you all to sing with me as loud as you can if that’s okay?" In emotional scenes, fans then sang the lyrics to some of Lewis' most popular hits back at him as he looked emotional with tears in his eyes.
Before his final song, he told the crowd: "I recently took three weeks off just because I’ve been non stop the past year and I wanted to take a wee break from my head for my mental health. I wanted to come back and do Glastonbury because it’s obviously so incredible so I just want to thank you all for coming out.
"I was scared but you’ve really made me feel at ease so thank you very much for that.”
Capaldi explored how the pressures of fame have affected him mentally and physically earlier this year in the Netflix documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now. It won an National Television Award (NTA) in the authored documentary category and has been nominated for a Grammy for best music film.
