Musical duo Jen and Liv win The Voice UK 2023 in 'toughest final ever'

ITV's The Voice UK has seen Jen and Liv crowned as the winners, with celebrity mentor Will.i.am championing them through the final.

Newcastle singers Jen and Liv was crowned the winner after eight weeks of performances that saw 40 singers be whittled down to a final of just four. Hope Winter, Callum Doignie, Jolie Stevens, and duo Jen and Liv gave it their all in the final tonight before host Emma Willis announced the 2023 winner in front of a studio audience and to ITV viewers at home.

As the winners of The Voice UK, Jen and Liv will receive the ultimate prize of a record deal with Universal, a cash prize worth a reported £50,000 and a luxury holiday to Mauritius.

The finale saw each of the four acts join their famous mentor on stage to perform for one last time, in their bid to be crowned the winner. First up was Jolie Stevens alongside Anne Marie as they performed Cindi Lauper's hit 'Girls wanna have fun'.

Next to follow them was The Voice UK hopeful Hope Winter and Olly Murs with their performance of Cian Ducrot's 'I’ll be waiting'. After they sang, mentor Olly told Emma: "In the six years i’ve done this show, I’ve never wanted someone to win so badly".

Third to perform was soulful rendition of Leonard Cohen's 'Bird On The Wire, by Callum Doignie and Tom Jones. The pair stripped back their performance, with just the two of them on stage.

It was left to Will.i.am and duo Jen and Liv to give it their all with their performance of Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul'. With Will.i.am behind a DJ set, the duo sang and rapped through the hip hop song alongside a posse of dancers.

The show also saw last year's winner Antonia Edwards return, who was previously described as having "a God given gift" by mentor Tom Jones. The singer took to the stage to perform her new single "All I Do Is Try" and revealed she's just finished touring with Billy Ocean.

Yet when the results were revealed, it was Jen and Liv who were crowned the 2023 winners of The Voice UK as voted for by the studio audience. Emma consoled the three runners up as she praised their performances as she said: "I genuinely do think this is the toughest final we've ever had".

A tearful Jen and Liv explained how much the win meant to them as they shared: "We are just really grateful, we’ve worked really hard and our families over there, we love them so much. All the coaches, Will you’ve been so life changing for us we just feel amazing, thank you everyone, thank you."

An emotional Will.i.am choked back tears as he stepped forward to praise his winning act as he told Emma: "Seeing the girls, they remind me of me and Apl - me and my best friend. Seeing people who really truly appreciate one another and support one another, it just reminds me of the person that I built my dream with."
