Paddy McGuinness has sparked outrage among his Instagram followers after sharing a post revealing he'd already taken his Christmas tree.

The comedian, who split from his wife of 11 years last year, Christine, shared the news with his fans, telling them the tree was gone on 28th December, just three days after the big day.

Posting a snap of him jumping next to the tree with presumably one of the family's Christmas presents, he wrote: "Timber!!! After three days of none stop fun and games, along with early signs of gout, I finally managed to sum up enough energy to dismantle the Christmas tree. A bit earlier than normal but these post Christmas energy spurts must be seized upon! When you taking yours down? #christmastree"

But nobody could be prepared for the anger the Take Me Out star had caused, with followers engaging in a huge debate in the comments section.

One Instagram user fumed: "There's 12 days of Christmas!! It never comes down until after the 6th of January. I can never understand the rush to get rid of the tree the minute Christmas Day is over. It's only the days between Christmas and New Year that you can relax and enjoy it!"

But others were with Paddy in his mission to declutter the house. One wrote: "We tend to take ours down quite quickly post Xmas as 3 ASD boys need our home back to normality!"

Another added: "Did mine Tuesday my son is autistic and hated it being up." A third reasoned: "Seems like people put decorations up a lot earlier which is probably why everyone is in a rush to take them down (along with the general clutter!)"

Speaking to Vicky Pattison on The Secret To... podcast, 35-year-old Christine said: "We talk an awful lot and we're very open. He has said to me when he's been going on a date. We still live in the same house. But I think both of us right now we are very much in the same place, where we're just like just don't really know what to do or where to go."
