BBC The Traitors star Claudia Winkleman shares unusual fake tan methods that 'drive husband mad'

BBC The Traitors presenter Claudia Winkleman has revealed she has an unorthodox approach to self tan and her beauty routine.

The presenter, who will return for the second season of the popular BBC series in January, has revealed she has gone to new lengths to get her trademark fake tanned appearance and she stands by the mantra that 'there is no such thing as too orange'.

The 51 year old star, who is also the host on Strictly Come Dancing, has resorted to using a common kicthen item to ensure she maintains her fake tan glow. The star has been known to steal the kitchen table salt and a classic scouring sponge to remove old fake tan - although she revealed husband Kyle isn't a fan.

Speaking on the BBC show, she explained with a joke: ""To scrub it off, I use table salt and a scourer – I have asked my husband to do it, but it’s not good for foreplay."

The star has also joked about her commitment to looking brown, as she revealed another unique method whilst at university. She told Graham: "When I was at university, I got rid of the bed and hired a sunbed instead – it was super cosy, and I was fluorescent! I love being orange." She's also previously revealed that when her finances couldn't stretch to the sunbed at university she would raid the kitchen cupboards with Bisto gravy, mud and even old tea bags all being used to give a distinctive tanned look.

Claudia will return to BBC for the second season of The Traitors after the first season earlier this year proved a huge hit with viewers. However the new series has left Claudia nervous that fans might not like it, as she explained in an interview to Heat magazine: "We're going again but I'm feeling nervous and weird about it. I originally said 'lets just leave it as this magical thing that happened. Then the head of BBC took my temperature. I just don't want people's expectations to be so high."

She continued: "The game is compelling and it taps into something I've been told all my life 'Trust your gut'. But it turns out you can't. You know absolutely nothing. On Strictly Come Dancing I'm like a cheerleader. When they sat me down and said I had to kick two people out, I was like 'Don't be ridiculous I can't do that'. I do have to be quite cold. Sometimes I'm on the side of the Traitors and sometimes I really want the Faithful to get one of them. They work in equal measure because I respect game play above everything."

The Traitors launches on Wednesday January 3 at 9pm on BBC One.
