There can be a lot of pressure at Christmas to get the perfect presents for people, with lots of couples even falling out over it. However, one woman has revealed that even though she would have been happy with the bare minimum from her boyfriend, she was still left disappointed and decided to dump him.

Sharing her rage on social media and looking for validation as to whether she was in the wrong, the 28-year-old explained that she had been under a lot of pressure recently with a new job and moving house. Despite this though, she had managed to get her boyfriend and his 16-year-old daughter suitable gifts and sort things out to make Christmas Day enjoyable.

She wrote: “Because the house is a mess, I even closed off the living room with curtains so that the stack of boxes and things wouldn’t make the Xmas decorations look ugly. I made sure the tree looked nice, I bought the food that he likes and I made myself pretty for him.”

But when her other half arrived, he immediately made fun of her make-up and the fact she was wearing a Santa hat. Now feeling disgruntled because of his behaviour, she was furious when he gifted her a small bottle of wine from the local shop.

She wrote: “I’m not a drinker. I know I wasn’t at my best because he said my face changed. He has a job. He could have gotten something actually thinking of me. I felt horrible when he said he would give me an IOU and that the rest of my present was in his pants. I ignorantly thought it was some game. Maybe he hid a small gift inside his pants? Nope. I was supposed to take his boy parts as a gift.”

Revealing she had given him a set of AirPods, and his daughter Hot Topic clothes, she reasoned that even though there is an income difference between them it wouldn’t be difficult for him to buy her something she would like and not be too expensive. She added: “Even a pair of affordable earrings could have made me feel happy.”

She went on: “I was furious. The IOU was cheap and while I’m very sexual, it wasn’t sexy. It felt vulgar. I asked him to leave and thanked him for giving me the worst Christmas and took back my present. I cried after he left and when he texted me if I was okay I broke up with him and blocked him.”

Following their split she revealed that his siblings have been trying to speak to her but she’s blocked them. She finished: “One of them accused me of being materialistic and shallow. And also said that not everyone has a fancy job and that I'm unfair for expecting a certain level of gifting.”

Reddit users were quick to assure her she was not in the wrong and rushed to offer their sympathies. One person wrote: “It was the gift in his pants comment … that’s just ..no!”

Someone else added: “You’re not the a**hole, I’m sorry, but he doesn’t even like you. He just likes what you do for him. One day you’ll meet someone who never makes you second guess yourself and your efforts and you’ll wonder why you ever spent time on such a loser.”

And a third replied: “When people say ‘it’s the thought that counts’ this is what it means, he put no thought, effort, or consideration into you.”
