England cricket ace Ben Duckett announced his engagement to Paige Ogborne over Christmas - but fans couldn't get over their celebratory social media post.

Duckett, 29, shared a photo of the pair, who started dating at the end of 2021. They were seen standing next to a Christmas tree as Paige gleefully showed off her ring.

However, fans were soon distracted by something that wasn't in the photo - namely, the lack of furniture in the room. One follower wrote: "Merry Christmas and congratulations. Also, where's all your furniture gone???"

Another said: "Is it the trend not to have furniture in your house nowadays?" A third added: "You've either just moved in or you're moving out," while a fourth joked: "I assume the ring cost a few bob. Explains why you can't afford any furniture! Congratulations nonetheless!"

Nottinghamshire star Ben and Paige started dating at the end of 2021 and have spent much of the last two years travelling around the world together, visiting places like Marbella, Cancun and Dubai, in between his cricketing exploits.

On their special day, Ben shared a loving message for his girlfriend on Instagram. He posted beautiful pictures of her and some cute photos of them together, saying: "One year with this incredible lady! I am so lucky to have you in my life."

Duckett, who first played for England in 2016, likes to tease Paige by calling her a "cougar" because she's older than him. But he also often jokes that he's "punching" above his weight.

Duckett has been included in England's 16-man squad for the five-day series against India beginning next month. The tour is Duckett’s first Test series since being awarded a two-year central contract in November, having played in all five of England’s Tests against Australia in last summer’s Ashes.

In that series, the opener scored 321 runs in nine innings, with a top score of 99 not out at Lord’s.
