Home Alone fans stunned as they realise who really plays the police officer

Christmas film Home Alone might be over 30 years old, but it's still surprising viewers with some fans being left gobsmacked over one small detail.

The Christmas classic film, which came out in December 1990, features the storyline of 8-year-old boy named Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin) who is accidentally left at home without his family at Christmas. The clever child doesn't just chill out at home either, as he manages to thwart two burglars Harry and Marv who attempt to break into his home, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.

Yet gobsmacked fans have now spotted one small detail, where robber Harry appears as a fake cop at the beginning of the film as he cases the joint. The short scene comes before Harry pairs up with Marv to try and break into the huge family home.

This small detail has left fans of the film shocked as they piece the scenes together, and some fans can't believe it. Expressing their disbelief and shock on Twitter/X, one fan wrote: "How old were you when you found out the cop in the beginning of home alone is also the robber ??? because I found out about two minutes ago." Another shared: "Hold on... the cop in the beginning of Home Alone is the robber at the end of the movie. WTF." A third said: "It's taken me 10+ years to realise the cop in home alone is secretly the robber." While a fourth added: "Guys I just had my mind blown... I just figured out the cop at the beginning of Home Alone was the robber too..."

The film, which made a staggering £337m around the globe and was nominated for two Academy Awards, is now 23 years old but is still considered a Christmas classic and essential viewing every festive season. Macaulay Culkin was just ten years old in 1990 when he shot to fame as Kevin McCallister, and went on to star in the sequel Home Alone II in 1992.

This year has also seen a hilarious debate sparked online as broadcaster Piers Morgan has been forced to deny he plays the Pigeon Lady in the Home Alone film series. Appearing in the second Home Alone film, the famous Pigeon lady befriends Kevin whilst he's stuck in New York and helps him.

Yet as the festive season got underway in 2023, Piers was bombarded with comments online - and he was quick to try to preempt a viral moment. Sharing a screenshot of Brenda in character as the Pigeon Lady via X/ Twitter, Piers wrote: "It's. Not. Me." adding two angry emojis. The joke began back in 2018 when his son tweeted an image of the character and joked: "Chilled night watching Home Alone 2… Always forget you’re in it @piersmorgan."
