Aldi has issued an emergency notice to shoppers for one of its popular Christmas items.

The budget supermarket chain has issued a recall warning for its Lacura Cozmo His 100ml & Lacura Cozmo Hers 100ml perfume bottles. Aldi described the move as an "Emergency Withdrawal and Public Product Recall" due to the product potentially being able to cause injury.

The notice has been put in place as the supplier of the perfume product has informed Aldi of a fault which may cause the glass bottle to break. This fault could potentially affect the product in all regions across the country.

Aldi has urged customers who have bought the products in question to return them immediately and they will receive a full refund. You will not need a receipt to receive your refund.

The recall notice read: "Please note that the following Emergency Withdrawal and Public Product Recall has taken place. As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling this product due to a fault which may cause the glass bottle to break."

To check if your product is impacted by the recall you should check the items barcode. The items affected will have the following barcodes:

  • Lacura Cozmo His 100ml - 4061459901849
  • Lacura Cozmo Hers 100ml - 4061459901863

In the notice, Aldi reiterated that all of its products go through "rigorous safety and quality checks" before they are put on sale in its stores. Since the recall announcement, Aldi has removed the perfume products from sale.

In a statement, Aldi said: "We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation."

What are recall notices?

Products can be recalled for a range of different reasons including safety – if a product displays risks for the customer – or quality – when the product isn't working as it should be.

Food products need to be recalled if they are found to have been contaminated with pathogens that could cause food poisoning, or if plastic or metal has been found in the product due to manufacturing faults. Food items also need to be recalled if any allergen information is missing or incorrect.
