A woman claims to have experienced a "time slip" in which she travelled 60 years into the past while walking along a busy high street.

As Julie French walked past a bookstore on Liverpool's Bold Street, suddenly a shopfront transformed into an old-fashioned department store with 1940s handbags and shoes in the shop window. Julie, who is now in her 50s but was in her 20s at the time, explained how she did a double take, thinking it must've been a war-related promotion.

“But then when I looked down at the floor, the pavement seemed to go darker. I turned around and as I looked up Bold Street, I saw about 12 or 13 people walking by all dressed in 1940s coats and hats," she told The Sun. "And what was even more significant was on the day it happened in June 1996, it was warm and I was wearing a T-shirt and jeans - but the people on the street seemed to be in the cold.”

She recalled then hearing the spluttering of an old-fashioned car, which was complete with period round side mirrors. She then heard it honking its horn as it trundled towards her, even though the street was supposed to be pedestrianised.

Julie walked inside the shop, where she was served again by a woman draped in 1940s-style garb. She turned to a bookcase which had the word "Dillons" written on it before a man grabbed her by the arm and she "slipped" back to 1996.

The phenomenon Julie believes she experienced is known as a "time slip", where people claim to have been suddenly whisked away to points in the past or the future at the same location.

Uncanny podcast host Danny Robins - who documents paranormal incidents on his show - says the phenomenon isn't uncommon.

He told The Sun: “I received a great story about somebody who walked out of the Oxford Street branch of HMV in the 1990s and saw the London street as it was in the Victorian period. They witnessed horse drawn carriages and cobbled streets and even experienced the smells of Victorian London. How do you explain that? Is it a glitch in someone’s mind? Or is it a moment of the past genuinely coming back to life in a strange sensory way? The idea of a connection to the past is really intriguing. We’d all love to travel back in time like in Back to the Future.”

Julie was not the only person to experience a "slip" on that day, and Bold Street is said to be a hotbed of such encounters. Frank, an off-duty policeman, was headed to the same bookshop and claimed to experience something spookily similar to Julie.

But that wasn't the last historic flashback Julie encountered. She said that nine months later she was heading to the Abbey National bank in Liverpool when she went into a shop filled with baby clothes. As she picked up a cardigan, she looked up to see a sign that read "2d", which is the way two pence was displayed in old British money. Everyone in the store was dressed in 1960s clothes, she added.

Rather than the prolonged experience like the one in Bold Street, this one was rapid and flitted back to normal within moments.
