Mo Salah shares Christmas message amid continued "death and destruction" in Gaza

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has shared a serious message this Christmas amid the ongoing conflict on the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian has been in fine form for the Reds so far this season, plundering 12 Premier League goals to help the Anfield side to second in the Premier League, just a point adrift of Arsenal.

He was on target as the Gunners held Jurgen Klopp's side to a 1-1 draw on Merseyside on Saturday, meaning it it still very congested at the top of the league.

Salah hasn't shied away from discussing the war in the Middle East, and has once again given his views in a poignant Christmas message.

He posted on Twitter : "Christmas is a time when families get together and celebrate. With the brutal war going on in the Middle East, especially the death and destruction in Gaza, this year we get to Christmas with very heavy hearts and we share the pain of those families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones.

"Please do not forget them and do not get used to their suffering. Merry Christmas."

Salah shared the message alongside a picture of his Christmas tree.

Despite a creditable draw against Arsenal, Salah vowed his side must do better if they are to keep pace in the title race. He posted on social media: "We know we can't keep dropping points like this and we will keep fighting to do better."

It was a sentiment shared by captain Virgil van Dijk, who insists Liverpool will put up a stern challenge for the title over the back half of the season. "City are a very good team as well, but Arsenal will be up there," he said. "We hope to be up there - we will really push them."

Salah is set to be absent for several weeks in January as he goes away to the Africa Cup of Nations. He will leave after Liverpool's New Year's Day clash with Newcastle and could miss as many as seven games if Egypt progress to the final.
