NRL star Troy Dargan has been killed in a horror motorcycle accident on Christmas Eve, aged just 26.

The halfback, who represented South Sydney Rabbitohs and had signed for Canberra Raiders ahead of the 2024 season, was holidaying with his family in the Cook Islands when tragedy struck.

His management confirmed the tragic news on social media on Christmas Day.

They said: "On behalf of the Dargan family, it is with a heavy heart that we share the news of TJ’s tragic passing overnight.

"He and his family were holidaying in the Cook Island (sic) where TJ was involved in a motorcycle accident.

"TJ will be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Dargan played twice for Souths before being released in 2021. He went on to sign for Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles in the New South Wales Cup, for whom he played six matches. He also played two games for the Cook Islands at international level.

NRL side Parramatta Eels, where Dargan spent time as a junior, said they were 'deeply saddened' by the new. They added: "Troy was an Eels junior who had a great connection to many of our junior players and staff."

Queensland club Norths Devils RLFC added that they were “devastated”.

“He was a much-loved member of the Norths family during his time with our club,” they said. “Our condolences to his family and many friends. Rest In Peace.”
