Cops scold driver of car found completely wrapped in 'illegal' Christmas lights

A car decked out in festive fairy lights has been pulled over by the police.

The driver, who had also tinted their windows, was warned their Christmas decorations were illegal. Gwent Police compared the darkened windows to "wearing sunglasses at night".

The police highlighted that it's against the law to have red lights anywhere but the back of a vehicle. They said the Christmas lights could confuse other drivers. The car was completely covered in lights, except for the windows, according to WalesOnline.

Gwent Police shared a photo of the car on social media, saying: "This vehicle was allowing less than half the required light through the front windows. Like wearing sunglasses at night. Also covered in fairy lights. Showing red lights to the front or other than red to rear is illegal and confuses other road users."

The Highway Code states that windscreens must be kept clear of anything that could obstruct the driver's view. This includes sat navs, window mounts and stickers.

The law requires at least two rear-facing mirrors, one of which must be the driver's wing mirror. However, there are no specific laws about rear visibility.
