George Clooney says 'not enough drugs in the world' for him to play Batman again

George Clooney has joked that there's "not enough drugs in the world" for him to play Batman ever again.

The actor, 62, starred in the 1997 movie Batman and Robin, a film which still has the power to raise a good laugh nearly three decades on. Dad-of-two George was joined in the doomed film along with Chris O'Donnell who played Robin, and a host of big-name stars.

Uma Thurman was cast as Poison Ivy, Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl, Jim Carrey as the Joker and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr Freeze - but despite the film's massive star power, it was a critical and commercial flop, putting a halt to the otherwise successful franchise for some time until it was reprised in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.

Entertainment Tonight couldn't help but ask George if he'd be back in the rubber suit anytime soon, and he had a great answer. He said that there isn't "enough drugs in the world" for him to consider that a good idea, before drily adding that there had been such a "clamour" for a sequel.

Apparently this prompted a fan to pull a face at the star, and to which he reacted in a typically jovial way. He said: "Why are you making that face? I saw the face! There was a clamour! I actually said, 'Where are my rubber nipples!' They were like, 'Can we do it without the rubber nipples?' I was like, 'It's not really my Batman, is it?'"

One review for the film on Rotten Tomatoes reads: "Batman & Robin is fun in exactly one way: Fun to laugh at. It's terrible, God is it terrible, but it's terrible in that right kind of way. Doesn't stop it from being terrible, but does make it worth watching."

George always seems keen to have a laugh about the dire superhero movie. Last week he joked his appearance in The Flash was a one-off after The Hollywood Reporter asked if his stint back in the world of superheroes and supervillains meant he might be back as Batman.

He said: "Oh yeah. Somehow there were not a lot of requests for me to reprise my role as Batman, I don’t know why." In 2021 George said about the film: "I did one superhero movie and I f––ed it up so bad they won't let me near the set."
