Wrexham striker Paul Mullin turned up to a dinner with Rob McElhenney and his wife Kaitlin Olson "bladdered" as the squad celebrated promotion to the Football League in Las Vegas.

Mullin, 29, played a big part in helping Wrexham secure the National League title and a spot in League Two for 2023/24. The striker scored 46 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions and even finished as the FA Cup's top-scorer.

To celebrate the Wrexham squad making history, co-owners McElhenney and pal Ryan Reynolds sent the squad on an all-expenses paid-for trip to Sin City.

The squad made use of the once-in-a-lifetime trip but striker Mullin had a confession from his time in Vegas. Mullin says he turned up to a dinner with co-owner McElhenney and his wife Kaitlin drunk. It all started with Mullin and teammate Liam McAlinden wanting to watch the UFC, and so they sought out a bar.

"Me and Liam [McAlinden] wanted to watch the UFC. We were just about to walk into a hotel with a TV when a security guard stopped us," Mullin revealed in his new autobiography, My Wrexham Story. "‘Private bar,’ he told us, ‘three hundred dollars minimum spend.’

"Another reminder that we weren’t in Wrexham now. ‘Watch this,’ I told Liam. I got $40 out and placed it in the bloke’s hand. And so there we were, sat in this high-rollers hang-out. The other punters pretty quickly twigged us as being off Welcome to Wrexham and we were having a very nice time, chatting away in our swim shorts, when suddenly we remembered – ‘Shit! We’re meant to be having dinner with Rob and Kaitlin!'"

"We rushed back to the hotel and got changed pronto. But when we walked into the restaurant, nothing could disguise a very obvious fact: we were bladdered and very late. I’ve little memory of that meal – who knows what we ate? – but somehow I still made it to another nightclub, this time where they’d made big cakes in the shape of the National League trophy."

Wrexham and Mullin are on a roll in League Two. The Red Dragons currently sit third and six points behind first-place Stockport. Mullin has nine goals in 18 games so far but his game time was limited at the start of the campaign as he recovered from a punctured lung suffered in the pre-season game with Manchester United.

Former West Ham striker Elliot Lee has been Wrexham's talisman this campaign. The 29-year-old has 13 goals in 27 appearances. His 13 strikes have him firmly in the League Two Golden Boot race, where he sits fourth and three goals behind Jake Young.

Up next for Wrexham is Swindon Town on Boxing Day. The Robins are enduring a mixed season, floating near-middle of the pack in 13th.
