When it comes to having pets in properties, some landlords have strict rules. Some may not let you have pets at all, while orders may charge an extra fee due to the risk of damage it can cause.

This would normally be for a dog or a cat, who might leave a lot of hair around or claw furniture, but one woman has been left speechless after claiming her landlord is charging her a fee for having a pet goldfish.

Taking to TikTok, the woman from the US, whose name is Nic, uploaded a video of her reaction to her monthly rent statement.

Nic looks at the screenshot in shock, and the caption reads: "They're now charging pet rent for fishes?"

In the screenshot, it says there's a $200 (£166) one-time fee for having a fish, although no aggressive breeds are allowed. In addition, there's an added $15 (£12) monthly pet rent free.

The video has now been viewed more than 60,000 times, and many people have taken to the comment section to voice their shock.

Many people slammed the landlord for their "greed", and some said the charges were "crazy".

One person said: "These apartments are out of control with their damn fees".

Another asked: "You gotta pay rent for a fish now??!!! No way."

A third said: "We all have several questions."

"'I didn’t think you needed permission for a fish," commented another.

On a more humours note, many also questioned the fact that no aggressive breeds were allowed.

One person asked: "Aggressive breeds? Like what, piranhas?," with a crying-while-laughing emoji.

Another joked: "Oh so me and my pet shark are supposed to just live on the streets?! Jesus come on show some humanity."

"Somebody had some piranhas and messed it up for everybody," said quipped another.

However, according to others the fee is likely there because there's a risk an aquarium or fish bowl would break and cause damange.

One person shared: "Someone broke their giant aquarium and caused a lot of damage and ruined it for everyone else lol."

Another added: "My landlord said her fish tank broke while she was on vacation and it was a huge tank… so kinda valid lmfao."
