Foden makes feelings clear on 'lack of credit' after 14th major honour with City

Phil Foden believes Manchester City aren’t getting enough love for the way they are dominating football.

‌At the age of 23, the England midfielder has added a Club World Cup medal to a collection that already includes five Premier League titles, the Champions League, the European Super Cup, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups. Foden doesn’t understand why praise for Pep Guardiola ’s team is not more forthcoming - but he has warned the rest of the Premier League that the defending champions will return to England with a renewed belief that they can win a fourth successive title.

‌Foden said: “I don't really think there's enough credit. This is unbelievably hard and so demanding, playing games every three days. So out of all that effort, to say that we’ve done this, is so good.

‌“The was our first time being able to win one (Club World Cup) - and we have to make sure it's not the last time. We want to keep building on this. Now that we've won it once, we know what it takes and we'll have the experience for next time when we get to the latter stages.

‌“Hopefully, we just keep going as a club and getting better. Kicking on from here was something we have spoken about, especially me. I wanted to win this because not only is it obviously a big competition for the club, but I thought it would give us the little boost going back into the season. It was what we needed. Now we've won it, that hopefully gives us that boost.”

‌City became the first English club to win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, European Super Cup and Club World Cup in the same year. Foden’s first call when he got back to the dressing room in Jeddah was to call his family. Young son, Ronnie, wanted got know about his dad’s latest medal.

‌And the midfielder, who helped England’s Under-17s win the World Cup in 2017, said: “I went on FaceTime with Ronnie and he said ‘show us your medal daddy.’

‌“The thing that I noticed is that it’s a similar medal (to the Under-17 World Cup). It's a great medal. I’m delighted, man. Fluminense have so many quality players. If you see the result it looks easy but it wasn't easy at all. I am b******sed. It was so demanding in that heat and we’re not used to that.

‌“We’ve won all five - but now the job’s not done. We want to do it again. These are good times when you win things and celebrate - and we want that feeling again. We're always hungry to keep winning. That's the game and when you play for Manchester City - you don't stop. You always have to win.”

‌City return to Premier League action at Everton on Wednesday night knowing they must hit the ground running if they are to have any chance of landing a fourth successive title.

‌Midfielder Rodri limped off against Fluminense in Jeddah on Friday night and left the stadium with his knee heavily strapped. But the Spaniard insists the knock is not serious enough to sideline him at Goodison Park.
