Netflix fans praise 'hidden gem' that is better than Game of Thrones

Fans of Netflix have claimed that adventure drama series Black Sails that is set to air on the streaming platform next year, is "better than Games of Thrones."

Black Sails, which is the prequel to Treasure Island and follows the adventures of Captain Flint and his men, will launch on the streaming platform on January 1st next year. Despite Game of Thrones being awarded 59 Emmy Awards during its eight year stint, fans rushed to social media to make the bold claim that Black Sails is better than the fantasy drama. Taking to Twitter one fan wrote: "Black Sails is finally on Netflix and if you haven't seen it it's better than Game of Thrones, it's a proper 10/10 show."

Another penned: "I'll never stop recommending Black Sails. It's basically Game of Thrones but with pirates,." And a third added: "At its best its way better than average GoT episode, but the best GoT eps are better." Meanwhile a fourth said: "The large budget difference and broader cast helps keep GOT better on average but BS has its own strengths. It also truly wears its 'no heroes' badge well, with everyone really out for themselves, whereas GoT morphed into a good vs evil eventually."

Captain Flint has a reputation throughout the West Indies as being the most brilliant but feared of all the Golden Age pirates. Set in 1715 and Flint fights for the survival of New Providence Island, which is made up of pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers. Black Sails aired from 2013 to 2017, starred Toby Stephens, Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Tom Hopper.

Game of Thrones is centered around the lives of two powerful families as they fight for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. The programme aired between 2011 to 2019 and boasted a star-studded cast including Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke and Aidan Gillen. Actress Rose Leslie, who starred in the hit Netflix show has spoken out about her off-screen relationship with her GoT co-star Kit Harrington.

Speaking to Vogue Italia, Rose who met Kit on the show said: "If you're already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love." In summer 2017, Kit proposed to Rose and demanded the GOT producers made time for all the cast to attend their wedding."

And Kit told chat show host Jonathan Ross: "I said, 'I'm getting married and it's your fault actually. I was like, 'You need to factor in a Game Of Thrones wedding by the way. They have all got to be there so the whole thing has got to shut down!'" The couple have two children together and their second child arrived earlier this year. Speaking about parenthood on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in February, Kit said: "You know with the first baby, you're like, walking on clouds and dancing through fields and daisies for nine months? Well, the man is anyway. This time, the reality check comes much shorter and you get practical, like, real quick."
