Former Premier League striker Billy Sharp has agreed a deal to join a new club following links with a move to Wrexham.

Sharp left Sheffield United in the summer after eight years at Bramall Lane. The experienced striker twice helped the Blades secure promotion to the Premier League during his time in South Yorkshire, scoring 129 goals in 377 appearances.

The 37-year-old then made the switch across the Atlantic to sign for LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer in the summer. Sharp's stint in the US would only last for a few months, though, despite scoring six goals in six games.

Championship club Hull City confirmed that Sharp was signing a deal that will run until the end of the current season. The Tigers confirmed that Sharp will officially sign for the club when the January transfer window opens on New Year's Day.

Before agreeing to the Hull switch, Sharp was linked with a move to Wrexham. This was despite the striker heavily criticising the club and the players after facing them in an FA Cup meeting last season.

In February, Wrexham faced Sheffield United in a fourth round replay after the first game finished in a 3-3 draw at the Racecourse Ground. It ended in a 3-1 victory for the Blades, with Sharp accusing the Wrexham players of showing a lack of respect in the build-up to the contest.

"I am glad we've beaten them," Sharp said in a post-game interview in February. "They are doing well in their league and we are doing well in ours but I wasn't happy with a few of their players there.

"They've been disrespectful. The way they've been as a club before the game, eyeing up Spurs before the game. They had not even beaten us.

"They thought we would just roll over when they got back in it, and I think the referee was helping them as well. I don't think he gave me one foul all night."

A few months later, after Sharp had left Bramall Lane and completed the second half of the 2023 MLS season with LA Galaxy, the striker was open to the possibility of signing for Wrexham. The Welsh club is currently in its first season back in the EFL after a 15-year absence and will be looking for back-to-back promotions.

"Wrexham are doing really well, fair play to them," Sharp said on William Hill's 'No Tippy Tappy Football' podcast in November.

"I don't hold grudges. If that were one of my better options, why not."

Following his move to Hull, Sharp's first game with his new club could come against Sheffield Wednesday on New Year's Day if the relevant paperwork is completed. If not, then Sharp's official debut is likely to come against Wayne Rooney's Birmingham City on January 6 in the FA Cup third round.
