Danny Cipriani has furiously hit out at speculation he may have been unfaithful to his estranged wife, Victoria Rose O'Callaghan.

The 36-year-old rugby star married 42-year-old Victoria in 2021, but fans were left stunned last month when they announced they were separating after three years of being together. It had been reported that trouble began for the couple when Danny released his autobiography, titled Who Am I?, which went into detail about his energetic past sex life - with confessions about threesomes and romping with women he met at cafes.

Danny, who is set to appear in the Strictly Come Dancing 2023 Christmas Special, has since been snapped looking close to professional dancer Jowita Przystał, 29 - leading some to question if there could be romance blossoming between the pair. However, some have speculated further and hinted they think Danny could have enjoyed some kind of extramarital affair.

But this is an allegation Danny is furiously denying. Taking to X/Twitter on Wednesday, Danny lashed out at such speculation to set the record straight. He wrote: "I’m writing this in the hope it will stop some of the absolute nonsense that’s being written by a handful of reporters, which alarmingly seems to be gathering momentum. I’m half expecting to wake up tomorrow to the news I’ve invented the hamburger (although I know that accolade goes to Kim Jong-il).

"For the avoidance of any doubt, and just to be very clear for the reporters who have been and continue to be a little acrobatic with the truth about me, I separated from my wife because it was quite simply the best route for both of us. I didn’t cheat, no-one 'saw any texts' and I’m not dating Jowita from Strictly Come Dancing (who is a brilliantly talented woman that deserves to be left alone and respected for what an outstanding professional dancer she is)."

He continued: "I’ve tried and I’m trying to avoid a war of words about the end of my marriage. No one wins. That said, can any reporter deciding it’s more important to make up stories about me (than to write about solutions for the cost of living crisis, homelessness in the UK, suicides due to the lack of financial aid people suffering from mental health receive, how grossly underpaid NHS workers and teachers continue to be) at least be factual about what you write. You’re entitled to your own opinions, but stop making up your own facts."

He added: "If I had committed a crime, cheated, or anything like that, I’d wear it. But I haven’t, so, again, can we please close this chapter of absurd sensationalism that only serves to fuel the distrust in the you, the media? Thank you and with love, Danny."

Danny’s post was met with a wall of support from his fans and social media followers who rushed to assure him they were taking his side. One wrote: “You don’t need to justify yourself to anyone mate remember that.”

Interest in Danny and Victoria’s split has been fuelled in part by cryptic messages his soon-to-be ex-wife has been sharing. In a recent Q&A with fans, Victoria claimed she could tell her marriage was on the road to collapse before the decision to split was made.

She told one follower who asked for advice on dealing with a split: "This must be the most asked question I've got at the moment. I knew it was coming. I'm ready for it. Acceptance, let it go with love. Embrace the pain, suffer it, let it wash over you, and feel it deeply; it's a necessary part of the process. Meditate, sit, with your emotions, allowing them to rise and fall, and observe their transformation and eventual release. I meditate in an acupressure mat - I highly recommend that. Listen to your thoughts, but don't let them define your reality; you can create your next moment."
