Liverpool v West Ham: bet365’s 12/1 Cup Quarter-Final Accumulator as another Anfield win is predicted

West Ham make the journey to Merseyside this evening as they face 2022 Carabao Cup winners Liverpool.

Midweek away nights at Anfield have historically proved to be a difficult night for any team across all competitions, and this season will be no different at an impenetrable Anfield that is yet to taste defeat.

At 11/8, Liverpool are the competitions favourites to make it to Wembley in 2024 and claim the trophy they’d won two years ago. The threats to Liverpool’s cup charge have depleted with Manchester City, Newcastle and Arsenal being knocked out ahead of tonight’s final last eight game.

Arsenal’s exit from the cup was at the hands of West Ham, when they showcased the perfect example of how to win without the ball in a 3-1 win. They only had 28% possession against The Gunners, but proved that even when sides are statistically dominant they are always ready to pull the trigger.

David Moyes’ Hammers will be brimming with confidence too as they’ve cruised through their Europa League group stage and sit comfortably in the Premier League in eighth. Finding the balance for competing on all fronts, they’ll believe anything is possible after last year’s incredible European cup journey.

Liverpool can have no complaints about their Anfield form and its aforementioned unbeaten record during this season. The only slight hangover could be from their 0-0 draw against rivals Manchester United at the weekend, where they’ll hope to respond to that lacklustre performance in destructive fashion tonight.

Liverpool to win and both teams to score - yes @

After beating Leicester 3-1 in the third round of the competition, and then beating Bournemouth 2-1 in the round of 16; Liverpool can smell Wembley’s arches once again.

The past two EFL Cup games have shown Liverpool’s ability to outscore the opposition, however, they do look likely to concede with a changed side expected for the cup games. Their game against Manchester United was the first league, Europa league or EFL cup game where there hasn’t been 2 or more goals in the match, so goals are to be expected both ends.

West Ham wouldn’t have got to this stage without their ability to score, but beating Arsenal so comfortably will give them the added momentum they need to cause an upset. They’re one of the top five highest scoring teams in the Premier League away from home too, so can be confident they’ll get a goal at some stage.

Liverpool have already played West Ham at Anfield this year, where the home side won 3-1. Given the numbers behind both of their seasons, Liverpool beating them but conceding looks to be a sensible expectation.

Over 10 match corners @

West Ham (6) and Liverpool (4) are the top two sides in the Premier League when it comes to goals from counter attacks. It’s set up to be an end-to-end game, and there’ll be plenty of corners flying around as interceptions and saves are needed to halt both sides on the break.

Alongside their impressive counter attacking statistics, West Ham are also top for blocks and place highly for saves. With their defensive credibility confirmed, against goal and assist merchant Mohamed Salah, or Darwin Nunez and his over two shots-a-game record, there’ll be corners.

The Hammers have had their fair share of corners as there 82 for the league season means they’ve averaged 4.8 per game. Liverpool have averaged 6.9 corners per game based on their 118 corners in the league, so keep an eye on over 10 match corners makes sense based on combined averages.

Edson Alvarez to be booked @

Having only had one red card in the league this season, West Ham show good constraint when it comes to competing to win the ball back. However, they are prone to punishment from the officials as they rank seventh in the table having received 42 Premier League yellow cards.

Sitting atop the players table for bookings is none other than Edson Alvarez. As a team who love the counter attack, and will likely have the smaller share of possession, they’ll need players such as Alvarez to be sticking their toe in to win the ball back.

With Alvarez in the engine room, and him being responsible for 16.6% of West Ham’s bookings this season, it looks like he may have to commit to getting the ball back and taking the risk once more.
