Cindy Crawford shares bizarre reason Diana asked her to meet William and Harry
Cindy Crawford shared a stunning throwback photo of herself posing alongside the late Princess Diana following her cameo in The Crown.
The iconic supermodel posted a clip from the sixth season of the hit Netflix series. The video, which she shared on both her Instagram feed and story, showed a young Prince William (played by Ed McVey) naming Cindy as one of the models he has pinned up on his bedroom wall.
“A little cameo on @thecrownetflix,” she wrote in the caption. “I still vividly remember visiting Kensington Palace to meet Diana and a teenage William (who had just discovered the "Super Models").”
The 57-year-old, who has been named the world’s wealthiest supermodel, also took the opportunity to revisit a stunning snap taken of her and the late Princess of Wales. Cindy shared the photo with her 8.1 million followers, adding a simple white heart and dove emoji.

Cindy was named as one of the models pinned up on Prince Harry's wall in the sixth series of The Crown (Getty Images)The throwback shot linked back to a photo she had shared back in 2017, explaining how she came to meet Lady Diana: “Remembering this inspiring woman today. This photo was taken at Kensington Palace”, the catwalk queen wrote in the caption, posted on the 20th anniversary of the late princess’ death.
“Princess Diana had somehow got the number to my office and called herself to ask for me. My assistant was in shock!” she added. “We finally connected and she asked if the next time I was in London I would come by for tea - I think Prince William was just starting to notice models and she thought it would be a cute surprise for him and Prince Harry.”
Cindy said she was initially nervous before meeting the late Princess of Wales (Getty Images for Ketel One)Cindy went on to describe a relatable panic over her outfit, but said Diana’s down-to-earth charm was so disarming the pair were soon chatting like old friends: “I was nervous and didn't know what to wear, but remember as soon as she came into the room and we started talking, it was like talking to a girlfriend. She was a class act and showed us all what a modern day princess should be. Rest In Peace.”
In 2020, while chatting with her close friend Naomi Campbell on her YouTube series No Filter With Naomi, Cindy revealed that she had felt “so intimidated” when she first met the ‘people’s princess’.
“I was so intimidated meeting Princess Diana and being at Kensington Palace and how just completely down to earth she was, because there's so much protocol and I guess, not being English, I don't understand some of it,” the star explained, before reminiscing about Diana’s outfit. “I feel like she was in jeans and a cashmere sweater. Not barefoot, but almost that vibe of being super laid back.”
Naomi, who had also met the princess in the past, said she felt “blessed” to have known her: “I loved Princess Diana, I just loved her. Humble, how down-to-earth and I'm just blessed to know her for the time that I did.”
