Manchester City midfielder Rodri believes winning the Club World Cup will put the faltering Premier League champions back on track.‌

Pep Guardiola ’s men arrived in the Middle East with question marks against their prospects of claiming a fourth successive title after just one win in six games. But they will become world champions for the first time if they beat Brazilian club Fluminense in Friday night’s final after overcoming Urawa Red Diamonds 3-0 on Tuesday.

Rodri said: “What we went through in the last few games left a very bad feeling in the changing room, so I think It was good for us to come here to the [Club] World Cup. Sometimes there's nothing you can say. I think when you’re in that bad moment you get the feeling that you have failed and are dropping points.

“Sometimes you deserve it, sometimes you don’t. It’s a time when you can’t speak much, you have to be quiet, work as hard as you can and results will come. It was important for us as a group to get that sort of performance – but we need it in every game. We must go game by game and not think too much about what is coming.

“I said to the lads we must just focus on now. We have a massive opportunity to win an incredible trophy. We're in the final. It was tough. Let's do our best to win it.

‌“We could be 10 points behind when we go home, but we don't panic. We don't look at the table. We have to just focus on ourselves and keep calm – even though we aren’t in the first spot now.”

City can become the first English club to hold the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, European Super Cup and Club World Cup in the same season. They will face Fluminense without Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku, despite the injured trio travelling with the squad to Saudi Arabia.

Rodri said: “An achievement like that is one of the things that we fight for. I think we have to give our best to try to win everything because it will be history. We were focused on this now, just on the final, and it would be an amazing run if we end with five titles.

“I think we have shown that we are a very complete team. We have a lot of injuries and have missed players this season. It’s unfortunate, but we always manage to overcome this situation.

"Important players for us are out, like Erling and Kevin and many other players. So we have to stick together and try to do as much as we can.”
