Everton v Fulham

  • EFL Cup Winner Outright Odds – Everton | Fulham

The recent decision to deduct 10 points off of Everton has proven to be a catalyst in their positive turnaround. In their last eight league matches they have only lost once, with five wins coming in their last six Premier League fixtures.

Fulham suffered a 3-0 loss against Newcastle at the weekend, albeit having to play 70 minutes of the game with ten men. Before that, they produced back-to-back wins in which they won 5-0 against both Nottingham Forest and West Ham.

Everton’s recent resurrection arguably has them as the favourites for this, but Fulham could be back to produce another stunning attacking display.

Port Vale v Middlesbrough

  • Where is Port Vale v Middlesbrough? Vale Park, Burslem

  • EFL Cup Winner Outright Odds – Port Vale | Middlesbrough

One of these sides will have to fly the flag as the “minnow” of the competition after this game. It’s early days in their respective leagues, but both sides will be looking at this as a huge opportunity to keep the party going during what has been an average league campaign so far.

There’s an argument that both sides have had an easier ride than most to get to this stage, but they say luck is where preparation meets opportunity. It’s an opportunity for Port Vale to write some history of their own as they could venture into the final four of the competition for the first time.

Middlesbrough on the other hand famously won the competition almost two decades ago, when a man of the match performance by Boudewijn Zenden saw him score and set one up as he helped them beat Bolton 2-1. Are Boro about to repeat history?

Chelsea v Newcastle

  • Where is Chelsea v Newcastle? Stamford Bridge, London
  • What are the odds for Chelsea v Newcastle? Chelsea , Draw , Newcastle
  • EFL Cup Winner Outright Odds – Chelsea | Newcastle

If some sides have had more favourable paths to the quarter-final stages, then Newcastle and Chelsea have had to beat some of the best sides in the competition to get here.

Chelsea are familiar with the latter stages of the competition, having made the final as recently as the 2021-22 season, and winning the competition five times previously. They had to overcome the tough challenge of Brighton in this year’s competition, but their inconsistent league form leaves teams guessing as to what kind of side will show up.

Newcastle are two-time runners up in the competition, as they await their first EFL Cup win. They’ve managed to banish some demons in the competition by avenging last year’s cup final defeat to Manchester United with a 3-0 win in the round of 16, having beaten Manchester City 1-0 in the previous round.

Eddie Howe’s side have shown obvious signs of fatigue as an injury-hit squad have not been able to compete consistently across all competitions. With European football no longer on the agenda, will Newcastle finally get that elusive cup? Or will the right Chelsea side show up to get Poch through to the semi-finals?

Urawa Red Diamonds v Manchester City

  • Where is Urawa Red Diamonds v Manchester City? King Abdullah Sports City, Jeddah
  • What are the odds for Urawa Red Diamonds v Man City? Urawa Red Diamonds , Draw , Man City
  • Club World Cup Winner Outright Odds – Urawa Red Diamonds | Man City

It may have been a surprise to Urawa Red Diamond fans to have won the AFC Champions League in 2022 to make it to this stage. Now in the Club World Cup semi-final having come through 1-0 winners against Mexican side Leon in the previous round, they now face the ultimate test against Manchester City.

Red Diamonds might try and find solace in Man City’s struggling league form, but Pep typically finds a way. The competition is no stranger to the Spaniard either, having won the title a combined three times already with Barcelona twice, and Bayern Munich.

Some key figures may be missing for City as Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku continue to be monitored, and Kevin De Bruyne still under the watchful eye of the medical staff. They boast a talented side with depth to help them fire on all fronts, and you’d still expect any City side to really test their Japanese opposition.

Their European dominance last season, and their current perfect record in the group stages this season, provides every reason for them to be named favourites to win the Club World Cup for the first time.

Even with injuries, City have finished the Champions League group stage as the highest scoring team. Their firepower could likely overwhelm Red Diamond, and you’d be forgiven for expecting a win for the Manchester side regardless of fringe players in the starting eleven to get vital minutes.
