Motorists in a major UK city have been left fuming by a local "parking enforcer" who has placed his own tickets on parked vehicles.

Several vehicles were given bright yellow notifications in Edinburgh, which can be easily bought online. Each one reads: "Parking Notice - You have parked on private land without permission. Your vehicle registration number has been recorded and a photo taken.

"Further action will be necessary if you continue to park here. Please do not park here again." Mystery surrounds where the mysterious notices plastered on around 30 cars near the Gorgie Sainsbury's came from.

Several people have been left fuming by the situation. One worker in the area told EdinburghLive: "We have always parked on that street because it is really difficult to park anywhere else in the area without being fined by either Aldi or Sainsbury's."

He also shared that: "It started with handwritten letters, I couldn't believe someone took the effort to write out around 20 notes for every single day I was at work for a month. On many occasions, as soon as I went back to my vehicle after work, not just my car but all the other vehicle's windshields were covered in stickers and that is about 30 cars in all.", he added.

A local who didn't want to be named told Edinburgh Live: "I think it might be someone new to the street or it could be someone who is upset about the current situation." They added, "I know it may be difficult for them, I live on this street and there are visitors who leave their cars in residents' spots a lot of the time to go shopping or do other things."

Councillor Scott Arthur said: "The tickets being left on cars on Westfield Street are not issued by the Council and therefore are not official fines we would discourage this kind of behaviour." He also mentioned, "Westfield Street is not currently within the Controlled Parking Zone. Should restrictions extend to the West of the current boundary in Gorgie then the Council will discuss the inclusion of the street in the CPZ with residents."
