Ryan Thomas has been spotted partying with his former Coronation Street co-stars seven years after leaving the ITV soap.

The 39-year-old actor, who played Jason Grimshaw in Corrie for 16 years from 2000 to 2016, took to Instagram to post a festive snap with Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby), Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster) and Samia Longchambon (Maria Connor).

Posing in front of a beautifully decorated gold and silver Christmas tree, even Ryan’s three-year-old son Roman got in on the act as he joined his famous dad and friends for the cute snap.

Tagging his former co-stars, Ryan wrote: “Manchester’s finest & Roman.” And fans went wild, with the picture getting thousands of likes within a few hours and some calling for Ryan to make his Corrie return.

One wrote: “The street’s calling your name Ryan!” as another commented: “Time to go back Ryan we need you!” A third chimed in: “What a line up, but let’s be honest, Roman steals the show lol x.” A fourth said: “Roman, the star of the show!” While a fifth added: “Miniature of you, he’s such a cute little boy.”

While fans might be here for a Jason Grimshaw Corrie return, it’s unlikely to happen as Ryan announced he was quitting acting in March 2021 after “losing the bug for it”. The TV star got his breakout role on the soap when he was 16 and later went on to star in Australian soap Neighbours.

Speaking on his podcast, Mancs On The Mic, which he co-hosts with brothers Adam and Scott, Ryan admitted it was ultimately rejection that was the final nail in the coffin for him. He explained: "It's so hard for me. I started off acting, I started off in that game and I really lost the bug for it. I feel the reason for losing the bug is rejection and going to auditions and not getting them."

The dad-of-two, who shares son Roman, three, and one-year-old Lilah Rae with former The Only Way Is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh and has 14-year-old daughter Scarlett from his previous relationship with Corrie star Tina O'Brien (Sarah Platt), said he also experienced negative comments from trolls when he was in Neighbours that knocked his confidence.

He shared: "I went over to do Neighbours and I just saw on social media that there were just quite negative comments towards me and my acting. I’ve never had that before because social media wasn’t around. I never got it in Corrie because I never had social media when I was in Corrie. If I did, it was at the end but I was so established there that people saw me as fixtures and fittings, so I never really got that sort of negative criticism.

"It happens in all aspects but I just found it really, really hard to deal with at first. I always think, ‘Oh, it’ll [the desire to act] come back at some point and maybe it will and it’s still something that I have in my locker if I want to explore it again. Right now I’m really happy with the direction I’m going.”

Though he has hung up his acting boots (for now), Ryan is a regular on reality shows, having won Celebrity Big Brother in 2018. He has also appeared on Celebrity MasterChef in 2022 and is among the celebs taking part in Dancing on Ice when the new series kicks off in January 2024.
