Curry sold in Tesco and Sainsbury's recalled because it may cause health issues

A popular curry sold in several supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado has been recalled because it could trigger allergic reactions.

Certain packs of Charlie Bigham’s Thai Green Chicken Curry & Fragrant Rice may contain mustard not listed on the label. This means it poses a health risk to anyone with a mustard allergy.

The affected curries are for two people, weigh 805g and have a use by date of December 21, 2023. The barcode reads 5033665213923. No other use by dates or other items are affected.

Shoppers are advised to return the product, which retails at £9.50, to the store where they purchased it from. In a document detailing the recall, Charlie Bingham said: “If you have purchased the above product with Use by date 21 Dec, please do not eat it.

“For details on how to return the product for a full refund, please contact your retail store or our customer care line on 0208 4539898 or email us at [email protected]. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standards of product quality and safety.”

It comes after Tesco Finest Apple & Cranberry Stuffing Mix was recalled because this product may contain moths and could be "unfit for human consumption". The warning applies to packs with the best before date of September 2024.

A spokesperson said: "Please do not consume this product and return it to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required. Tesco apologises to our customers for any inconvenience caused. If you require further details, please contact Customer Services directly on: (UK) 0800 505 555 or (ROI) 1800 248123."

Various bean products manufactured by Princes Group have also been recalled from Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco because some tins may have small rubber balls inside. A spokesperson said: "Princes Group is recalling a number of canned bean products because they may contain small rubber balls, making them unsafe to eat. Princes Group is recalling the above products from customers. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the products. Please see the attached notices."
